madonna

Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone (born August 16, 1958) is an iconic American pop singer, dancer, songwriter, author and actress. After signing to Sire Records in 1982, hits such as "Holiday", "Like a Virgin" and "Like a Prayer" catapulted her to massive success. By the 1990s, her commercially successful albums, constantly reinvented image, groundbreaking music videos and controversial nature would earn her the title "Queen of Pop".

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Madonna is the most successful female solo artist of all time. Apart from achieving twelve number one hits and thirty-seven top ten hits on the U.S Billboard Hot 100, she has garnered twenty MTV Video Music Awards (including the Video Vanguard Award), five Grammy Awards, as well as a Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) Golden Globe Award for her performance in Evita. Two soundtrack cuts performed by her, Sooner or later and You Must Love Me, were awarded with Oscars.

Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone (Veronica is her confirmation name) was the third of six children born to an Italian-American Chrysler engineer, Silvio "Tony" P. Ciccone, and Madonna Louise Fortin (from a French Canadian family in Bay City, Michigan). She was raised in a Catholic family in the Detroit suburbs of Pontiac and Rochester Hills.

Madonna's mother died of breast cancer at the age of thirty on December 1, 1963, when Madonna was only five. The singer has frequently discussed the enormous impact her mother's death had on her life and career. Tony later married the family housekeeper, Joan Gustafson, and had two children with her.

Tony required all of his children to take music lessons. After a few months of piano lessons, Madonna convinced her father to allow her to take ballet classes instead, and she proved to be a gifted dancer.

Madonna attended Rochester Adams High School, where she was a straight-A student, excelled at sports and was a member of the cheerleading squad. After graduating from high school in 1976, Madonna received a dance scholarship to the University of Michigan, where she met ballet teacher Christopher Flynn. In addition to mentoring young Madonna in the field of dance, he provided her first exposure to gay discotheques, a scene that would later have considerable impact on the singer's music and style.

In 1977, at the encouragement of Flynn, Madonna left college at the end of her second year and moved to New York City to pursue a dance career. Looking back at her arrival in New York, Madonna has said "When I came to New York it was the first time I'd ever taken a plane, the first time I've ever gotten a taxi-cab, the first time for everything. And I came here with 35 dollars in my pocket. It was the bravest thing I'd ever done."

Madonna would brave financial difficulties throughout this time, living in squalor (when not living off the kindness of friends and lovers) and working a series of low-paying jobs. Madonna would often turn to nude modeling to make ends meet, a choice that would come back to haunt her after reaching mainstream success. During this time she also studied with modern dance legend Martha Graham, as well as a Graham disciple, Pearl Lang. Madonna later performed with several modern dance companies, including Alvin Ailey and the Walter Nicks dancers.

While performing as a dancer for French disco star Patrick Hernandez on his 1979 world tour, Madonna met and became romantically involved with musician Dan Gilroy, with whom she would start her first rock band, the Breakfast Club, in New York. Madonna played drums and later sang and played guitar and the drums with The Breakfast Club before forming Emmy in 1980 with drummer and former boyfriend Stephen Bray and then breaking off with Bray to write and produce a number of solo disco and dance songs that brought her local fame in New York dance clubs, particularly Danceteria and Kansas Kansas. A demo of Madonna's Bray collaborations caught the ear of popular New York DJ/Producer Mark Kamins, who brought the tape to the attention of Sire Records.

It was at this time that Madonna received her first starring film role - a part in the low-budget independent film A Certain Sacrifice - another career move that would reap unfavorable attention on Madonna in the years following her success.

nelly

Nelly (born Cornell Haynes Jr. in Austin, Texas on November 2, 1974) is a successful American hip-hop artist who rose to fame in 2000.

A self-described "army brat," Nelly spent the first few years of his life living in Spain before moving to St. Louis, Missouri. Nelly's parents divorced when he was eight years old. Nelly admitted he used to get into a lot of fights but by the time he started high school he was into baseball instead.[1] Although he had a promising baseball career, he decided to try his hand at music instead, forming the St. Lunatics with several neighborhood friends. He first came to mainstream audiences with Country Grammar (2000) and released Free City with the St. Lunatics in 2001. Country Grammar turned out to become a mainstream success that set the stage for his breakthrough album, Nellyville. Nellyville established him as one of the most famous rappers in the early 2000s, with an image of being equal parts handsome boy-next-door and tough gangsta. From the beginnings of his pop career, the lyrics of "Country Grammar" explored this dichotomy, posing the question: "Who says pretty boys can't be wild niggaz?" and containing references to gun violence and drug use while also sending shoutouts to billionaires Bill Gates and Donald Trump, as well as fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter.

The 2002 single "Hot in Herre" was also tremendously popular, as was its follow-up, "Dilemma," which featured vocals by Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child.

At the 45th annual Grammy Awards Nelly received two Grammys for Best Male Rap Solo Performance and shared a Grammy with Kelly Rowland for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.

In early 2003, Nelly released the controversial single, "Air Force Ones". MTV, MTV2, MuchMusic, and VH1 refused to air the video due to product placement for Nike's popular sneakers of the same name. BET, however, played it. ( Nike and Nelly agreed on a 1 year deal contract in 2003 to release a limited-edition sneaker called the "Air Derrty" which was a retro remake of Charles Barkley's signature sneaker the Nike Air Max2 CB '94 which was released on June 13, 2003 at select NIKEtown stores. Limited to 1,000 pairs.)

The following year in 2004 Nelly won his third Grammy this time for his number one hit single "Shake Ya Tailfeather". On September 14, 2004, Nelly released two albums simultaneously, Sweat and Suit. Suit, an R&B-oriented album, debuted at #1 on the Billboard albums chart and Sweat, a rap-oriented album, debuted at #2 on the same week. From the Suit album, the slow ballad "Over and Over", an unlikely duet with country music star Tim McGraw, became another crossover hit. Nelly performed the song with McGraw on the latter's CBS Television concert special in 2004. Nelly is also part owner of the NBA expansion team Charlotte Bobcats with BET founder Robert Johnson as of 2005.

Even though Nelly's albums are classified as "Rap", he performs these songs in a melodic manner. References in similarity can be drawn to Ja Rule and more recently 50 Cent, who both tend to "flow" in the same melodic manner.

Nelly used to be seen always with a white bandage on his left cheek, which he no longer wears. It was in remembrance of his brother who was in jail at the time. Most of his music videos feature Nelly wearing the St. Louis Cardinals logo, his favorite baseball team.

Nelly is also a co-sponsor of the non-carbonated sports energy drink, Pimpjuice. The company also holds many contests, many of which have prizes to be able to meet him in person.

Nelly has a daughter named Chanel (born in 1994), and a son, Cornell III "Tre" (born in 1999).

He started his own clothing line called Vokal before his music career took off, and he and his crew have often had its logo featured prominently on their clothing in music videos and public appearances. He also has a clothing line for women called apple bottoms

In 2001, Nelly's sister Jacqueline "Jackie" Donahue was diagnosed with leukemia. In 2003, Nelly and Jackie started the Jes Us 4 Jackie campaign, a search for a bone marrow donor. The search was unsuccessful, and Jackie died March 24, 2005, of complications from leukemia. Nelly has continued charity work related to this illness in her memory.

Nelly is currently dating R&B singer Ashanti.

Fat Joe

Fat Joe (also known as Fat Joe da Gangsta, Joey Crack, and Don Cartagena, born Joseph Cartagena on August 19, 1970) is an American rapper. Of Puerto Rican and Cuban heritage, and born and brought up in the Bronx, Joe was popular in the underground hip hop scene during the early and mid-1990s. During this period, Joe was affiliated with KRS-One — there are pictures online at KRS-One's Temple of Hiphop site showing them drawing graffiti ("bombing") together. He is also a member of the D.I.T.C. Crew (the "Digging in the Crates Crew"), along with well-respected hip-hoppers such as Diamond D, Lord Finesse, O.C., A.G., Buckwild, occasional member Big L (deceased), and Big Pun (deceased). The title of the group refers to DJs who "dig in the crates" of used record stores to find rare or novel records with "breaks" that they could use for production or in performances.

After Joe's rap protege, the similarly large, Puerto Rican, Bronx-based rapper, Big Pun, broke into the mainstream with his duet with the O'Jays, "I'm Not a Player" and its more popular remix, "Still Not a Player", featuring R&B singer Joe, Fat Joe began to follow suit. His 1998 single, "Bet Ya Man Can't", which featured Big Pun as well as other members of their Terror Squad clique, such as Cuban Link and Triple Seis, was a small hit. Shortly before Big Pun's death, Pun and Joe had a hit with Jennifer Lopez on a track from her first album, On the 6, called "Feelin' So Good".

With 2001's release of J.O.S.E. (Jealous Ones Still Envy), Joe scored two back-to-back hits with "We Thuggin'", which featured R&B superstar R. Kelly singing the chorus and "What's Luv", which featured up-and-coming R&B/pop star Ashanti on its chorus, and went on to become one of 2002's biggest pop hits.

In late 2002, Joe released the album Loyalty and had a couple of minor hits with "Crush Tonite" (featuring Ginuwine) and "All I Need". The rapper has appeared in several films, including the 2002 film Empire with John Leguizamo and Peter Sarsgaard.

Fat Joe is also a member of Terror Squad, which released their first, self-titled, album on September 21, 1999. After several roster changes (including original members Triple Seis's departure and Cuban Link's expulsion), the clique released a second album, True Story, in July 2004, with the summer hit "Lean Back", later remixed by Lil' Jon, with a new verse from Fat Joe, and featuring Eminem, Ma$e, and Lil Jon.

In September 2004, a former bodyguard for Fat Joe was arrested and charged with a 1994 murder which the rapper had allegedly witnessed. According to the New York Times, Jose Mulero, thirty-eight, was charged with murder, tampering with evidence, and weapons charges, after being accused of shooting Ernesto Rivera, sixteen, on April 15, 1994. Fat Joe was investigated for ties to the shooting, but eventually cooperated with the authorities, which alienated many of his fans who believed that Joe had become a police informant.

In late 2004, Fat Joe scored another radio hit with his verse on Ja Rule's "New York", also featuring Jadakiss and a hook taken from KRS-One's "100 Guns". This, however, led to awkwardness after 50 Cent decided that all emcees who collaborated with his nemesis, Ja Rule, were setting themselves against him.

Fat Joe's new solo album, All or Nothing, originally scheduled to be released in Spring 2005, was pushed back several times (supposedly due to sample clearances, though also perhaps by Interscope executives interested in not having Joe's album compete with 50 Cent's release), but was released in July 2005. The first single, "So Much More", was released to radio and video rotation. The video features appearances by DJ Kay Slay, who has also called himself the "black Fat Joe". The video's second half also includes a portion of the song "The Incredible", also from All or Nothing. The second single, "Get It Poppin'", features Nelly of the St. Lunatics, and is also in radio and video rotation (it was the theme song for WWE 2005 SummerSlam).
