i've read Susan Phillips novel and I liked it so much even though it saddened me, through some parts I felt depressed and I didn’t just cry I sobbed my heart out… I felt like Honey's pain is my own, I loved with her… I lost my love with her… I cried with her… I loved again with her, it's incredible how you can lose yourself in the character
one of the things I liked and hated at the same time is the reality of the novel … not everything but most of it, I hated the reality of losing one's love to death, and I liked the truth of it … I mean people die all the time but I've always kind of considered the leading characters in a novel to be immortal … everybody else die but not them , they'd love each other, confess their love and commitment and live a happily ever after and the world will be great again. But this story wiped this concept there is no happy ever after, there is a happy beginning maybe… and there is also an ending, no matter what the ending is it wont be happy… happily ever after are kind of an open ending that you won't find in real life… sorry I didn’t mean to start a philosophy session so I wont go on about this point. I'll just say that I hated the author when she killed Dash, I knew it's necessary not to give Eric a chance with Honey but because it's time Honey moved to another stage with her life… the love between them was strong and real but it was a love born out of need, the need to belong … the need to feel that there's someone who'll be there for you… I know that is a part of love, one of it's many faces… but that's not all coz when you fall in love you want to share your life with someone… to participate in everything … to create a family that'll belong to you as much as you belong to it. Because let's face it a girl for example belongs to her father, whatever, she needs him and in most cases he'll be there for her when she needs him. But this girl cant share her life with her father, or create a family that belongs to her with him. Honey loved Dash as a man but she needed him as a father … as the family she never had or belonged to… that's why it was necessary for her to move on… to grow and mature and find the second kind… in order to achieve that the author killed Dash and I still hate it. It broke my heart when he died I wanted to scream along with Honey " the hero never dies" … but he did.
Another thing I loved and hated is the idea that the heroine falls in love with two men not at the same time but still, usually when that happen one of the character wont be as special as the other but this time I couldn’t take sides I loved both of them… they both were hero material even though they were imperfect I mean one of them was a serial womanizer who'd sleep with any female and the other is a selfish lover who used women and didn’t even care enough to satisfy any of them … it was natural that when one die the other will take over but that's not romance fiction stuff … that's reality, I mean in real life it's ok if you loved more than once it happens all the time , but in fiction one is supposed to fall in love once and anything else is either a crush or infatuation or something like that. But in this novel Honey loved both of them with passion.. different kind of love but both strong and real … which was an unreal thing at least that what I think… because in real life you may love more than once but will you have both loves??? Doubtful
On more thing is the idea of child abuse, it's was so touching I cried with the child I cried over her innocence over the way she reacted, the things she said to her father after the accident… it was sooooo real and touching
