is something fixed or fastened before something else- in this case. a root word
Now look in a dictionary and notice the large number of words that use con-as a prefix. Here are just some of the Words you'll find listed. Notice that this list is just a small sample. Knowing the meaning of these words will stretch your vocabulary, and practicing your knowledge will increase your communication ability. You will gain skill in speaking, and in recognizing, many words. One of the keys to recognizing the words we have just discussed is knowing what their prefix mean. The prefix con-means with together or jointly.
Knowing the meaning of a prefix will help you in determining the meaning of the combined prefix and root word. To find the meaning, you need only to know the meaning of the word, and convert this meaning to fit the prefix.
Additionally, knowing the spelling of prefixes will be great help to you, since the same prefixes and roots are used repeatedly in forming many of our words.
There are many prefixes. By becoming familiar with the common ones, you will be able to understand and master words that may have been troublesome.
