Marie Donovan is the awardwinning
author of HER BOOK
OF PLEASURE, a sensual
romance novel to be published
by Harlequin Blaze in January
2007. Her first novel, HER
BODY OF WORK, came out in
English in 2005 and in Dutch in
December 2006 under the title
NAAKT ONDER HAAR
HANDEN (NAKED UNDER HER
HANDS).
A Chicago-area native, she got
her fill of unhappy endings by
majoring in opera/vocal
performance and Spanish
literature. “I was singing arias
from all those famous operatic
heroines who die of
consumption, throw
themselves off bridges, and
get bumped off by various bad
guys,” recalls Donovan.
“Then I would have to study Latin American dictatorships, Aztec human
sacrifice, and the Spanish Civil War.” As an antidote to all the gloom and doom,
she read romance novels whenever she could. “Anything with a happy ending.
At that point, I wasn’t too picky.”
After graduating, she tried her hand at writing a romance and then shelved it for
several years before starting over. Her second try was a contemporary sensual
romance novel that won three chapter contests from Romance Writers of America
and finalled in two more. She caught the attention of several editors and agents
and sold HER BODY OF WORK to the Harlequin Blaze line in January 2005.
Her third novel for Harlequin Blaze will come out in late 2007. After that, she looks
forward to writing more smart, sexy, stirring romances for Harlequin
